Every October is a time for children to get excited about going out dressed up as their favorite characters to ring doorbells and get loads of candy. For parents, it is important to not only provide their children with a great time but also find ways of keeping them safe. Many times families find they cannot always afford to buy the latest costume of “Captain America” or “The Little Mermaid,” so they turn to personal crafting abilities. The great thing about making costumes and other Halloween needs at home is that families can work together. The simplest way of making costumes at home is by using old cloth table linens. For example, by using those faded and stained linen napkins and table cloths, a great cost can be cut from going to the fabric store to get new fabric that might end up getting ruined by the end of the night anyways.

Costume Making

Even if the child [or adult] wants to just be a ghost, the table linen provides an easy fix for this costume. This costume can be easily constructed by creating tattered shirts and pants out of the table cloths and using kitchen supplies such as ketchup or corn syrup with red food coloring to make the appearance of blood. For those who are more apt and crafting, with the use of a variety of same colored linen napkins cut into squares a “Spider-Man” costume can be made with contrast threads. Other Halloween Needs

For those throwing Halloween Parties, a great variety of party supplies can be found through these linens. Of course the more obvious table cloths and linen napkins can be used as their intended purpose; but because of their possibly worn appearance, they can be used as ancient cloth table linens. They can also be painted to provide more colors or a foggier more worn appearance. These table linens can also be used as older curtains with frayed edges or sewn together to make scarecrows for the front yard. Cloth table linens can be reused for the season as great decorations.
